Julatten is a vibrant rural community situated on the Northern end of the Atherton Tablelands, about 110 kilometres North West of Cairns in Far North Queensland.

Our population is approximately 979 (taken from the 2006 census) and according to National Geographic magazine we have the third best climate in the world with an average temperature of 23 degrees and an average rainfall of 1536mm.

Forty minutes drive up into the mountains from the tourism hub of Port Douglas along an excellent road enclosed by wet tropical rainforest will bring you here to our lush green rolling hills.  You will find pasture for cattle and space to grow sugar cane, bananas, lychees and even barramundi.

Hiding in our hills are beautiful deep clear swimming holes (free from crocodiles), historic walking tracks including "The Bump" and many diverse species of birds bringing birdwatchers from all over the world.

Accommodation includes 2 caravan parks (easy to find, both on the highway) retreats offering pamper packages and bed and breakfast cabins.

The area of Julatten sprawls out from either side of the main highway between the wet tropical coast and the drier savannah interior.  It is well serviced by a Tavern where local musos congregate on Wednesday nights and a general store that supplies local produce and fuel.  The community hall is used for classes such as yoga and fitness and if you are lucky you may catch a play put on by the theatre group.

There are many community groups supporting residents, a school, child care and kindy.

Cooler temperatures during hot humid summer months draws many people from the coast to experience the "air-conditioned" serenity.  If you live, work or are visiting Julatten this is your page on the web.

If you would like to be a part of this website as a business, a community organisation or a storyteller contact Cheryl at Julattencc@conxx.com.  The website is still in the developmental stages, we hope that in the next few months to keep adding to it and improving it, with a plan to have an official launch perhaps in April or May of 2010.
